Fujisato is located at the confluence of the Kasuge River and the Fujikoto River in the Yoneshiro River system in far northwestern of [[Akita Prefecture]]. The town itself is nestled in a small valley at the base of the Shirakami Mountains. The hillsides are brimming with lush green in the summer, amazing orange in the autumn, and covered in white snow during the winter. Due to its location in the middle of the mountains, the temperature in Fujisato can get remarkably cold at night, with snowfall tending to be somewhat greater than that in neighboring municipalities.

The area of present-day Fujisato was part of ancient [[Dewa Province]], dominated by the [[Satake clan]] during the [[Edo period]], who ruled [[Kubota Domain]] under the [[Tokugawa shogunate]]. The area was organized into villages within [[Yamamoto District, Akita]] with the establishment of the modern municipalities system on April 1, 1884. The village of Fujisato was established on March 31, 1955 from the merger of the villages of Fujigoto and Kasuge, both from Yamamoto District. It was raised to town status on November 1, 1963.

Fujisato has a [[mayor-council]] form of government with a directly elected mayor and a [[unicameral]] town council of ten members. A “Kotani Village” in [[Dewa Province]] is mentioned in records of the area from the period of [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi]]. During the [[Edo period]], the area came under the control of the [[Satake clan]], who ruled the northern third of the province from [[Kubota Domain]]. After the start of the [[Meiji period]], the area became part of [[Kitaakita District, Akita|Kitaakita District]], Akita Prefecture in 1878. The village received considerable negative publicity in the 2000s due to widely publicized issues pertaining to doctor shortages in rural areas. According to these reports, in February 2008, a male doctor who had been working in remote areas for more than 20 years started working in Kamikoani. He said "''This village is the last place in my career as a doctor. I want to continue medication as I have love and interest for people.''" before working. Yamaga is located in the northern inland area of Kumamoto Prefecture, about 30 kilometers north of Kumamoto City. The city borders Fukuoka Prefecture from the north to the northeast, and Oita Prefecture to the east. The area from the urban center, which is slightly south of the geographic center, to the southern part (former Kikuka Town) is a basin. The area of Yamaga was part of ancient [[Higo Province]]. There are many [[Kofun|burial mounds]] dating from the [[Kofun period]] within the city limitsm and the name "Yamaga" appears in early 8th century records. During the [[Kamakura period]], the area developed as a [[onsen|hot spring]] town and in the [[Muromachi period]] it developed into a commercial settlement and a [[shukuba|post town]] on the [[Buzen Kaido]] highway, and was noted for its production of umbrellas. During the [[Edo Period]] it was part of the holdings of [[Kumamoto Domain]]. It was the site of a battle during the 1877 [[Satsuma rebellion]]. After the [[Meiji restoration]], the town of Yamaga was established with the creation of the modern municipalities system on April 1, 1889. On January 15, 2005, Yamaga absorbed the towns of [[Kahoku, Kumamoto|Kahoku]], [[Kamoto, Kumamoto|Kamoto]], [[Kaō, Kumamoto|Kaō]] and [[Kikuka, Kumamoto|Kikuka]] (all from [[Kamoto District, Kumamoto|Kamoto District]]) to create the new and expanded city of Yamaga.

The area of present-day Kami was part of ancient [[Mutsu Province]], and has been settled since at least the [[Jōmon period]] by the [[Emishi]] people. Kami District is mentioned in early [[Nara period]] records. Per the ''[[Shoku Nihongi]]'', following a huge earthquake in the year 715 AD, a large number of people migrated to this area from the southern [[Kantō region]], forming numerous fortified settlements. During later portion of the [[Heian period]], the area was ruled by the [[Northern Fujiwara]]. During the [[Sengoku period]], the area was contested by various [[samurai]] clans before the area came under the control of the [[Date clan]] of [[Sendai Domain]] during the [[Edo period]], under the [[Tokugawa shogunate]]. Following the [[Meiji restoration]], the town of Nakaniida was established within [[Kami District, Miyagi]] with the creation of the modern municipalities system.

The area of present-day Kawasaki was part of ancient [[Mutsu Province]], and was part of the holdings of [[Sendai Domain]] under the [[Edo period]] [[Tokugawa shogunate]]. The area of present-day Ōhira was part of ancient [[Mutsu Province]], and has been settled since at least the [[Jōmon period]] by the [[Emishi]] people. Per the ''[[Shoku Nihongi]]'', following an earthquake in the year 715 AD, a large number of people migrated to this area from the southern [[Kantō region]], forming numerous fortified settlements. During the [[Sengoku period]], the area was contested by various [[samurai]] clans before the area came under the control of the [[Date clan]] of [[Sendai Domain]] during the [[Edo period]], under the [[Tokugawa shogunate]].

The village of Ōhira was created within [[Kurokawa District, Miyagi|Kurokawa District]], Miyagi Prefecture after the [[Meiji restoration]] on April 1, 1889 with the establishment of the modern municipalities system.

The economy of Ōhira is largely based on agriculture, primarily the cultivation of rice. Toyota opened a new assembly plant in Ōhira on February 17, 2011, its first new plant in Japan in 18 years. The area of present-day Shichikashuku was part of ancient [[Mutsu Province]], and was part of the holdings of [[Sendai Domain]] under the [[Edo period]] [[Tokugawa shogunate]]. It was made part [[Katta District, Miyagi|Katta District]] in the new [[Iwaki Province (1868)|Iwaki Province]] at the start of the [[Meiji period]]. The district was transferred to Miyagi Prefecture on 21 August 1876.

Shichikashuku Village was established on April 1, 1889 with the establishment of the post-[[Meiji restoration]] modern municipalities system. It was raised to town status on April 1, 1957.

==History==
The area of present-day Shikama was part of ancient [[Mutsu Province]], and has been settled since at least the [[Jōmon period]] by the [[Emishi]] people. Per the ''[[Shoku Nihongi]]'', following a huge earthquake in the year 715 AD, a large number of people migrated to this area from the southern [[Kantō region]], forming numerous fortified settlements. The name of “Shikama-saku” appears in [[Nara period]] records dated 737 AD as one of these settlements. During the [[Sengoku period]], the area was contested by various [[samurai]] clans before the area came under the control of the [[Date clan]] of [[Sendai Domain]] during the [[Edo period]], under the [[Tokugawa shogunate]].

The village of Shikama was created on April 1, 1889, with the establishment of the modern municipalities system. Shikama was raised to town status on April 1, 1978. A motion to [[Gappei|merger]] with the neighboring three towns of [[Miyazaki, Miyagi|Miyazaki]], [[Nakaniida, Miyagi|Nakaniida]], and [[Onoda, Miyagi|Onoda]], all from [[Kami District, Miyagi|Kami District]], was defeated by a local referendum in April 2003.
