Geoffrey was a son of Fulk's second wife, Ermengard of Bourbon. His father tried to disinherit him in favour of [[Fulk of Jerusalem|Fulk the Younger]], his son by his fourth wife, [[Bertrada of Montfort]]. Fulk, by then an old man, had previously delegated much of his authority to Geoffrey.<ref>Bachrach, 125–26, relying on documents in the [[cartulary]] compiled for the church of Saint-Laud-d'Angers.</ref> With the support of his father's adversaries, Geoffrey seems to have achieved recognition from his father and from 1103 styled himself "count" (''comes'' in the Latin of the day) and took control of the government.<ref>While Ziolkowski et al., 78–79, represent Geoffrey as forcing his father to recognise him, Bachrach, 114, citing [[Kate Norgate]], treats Fulk as effectively deposed for three years.</ref> He allied with [[Renaud de Martigné]], [[Bishop of Angers]], against the baron [[Maurice I de Craon|Maurice of Craon]]. Geoffrey was besieging a rebellious baron in the castle of [[Candé]] when, on 19 May 1106, he was struck and killed by an arrow while going to negotiations. He was the eldest son of [[William Ros, 6th Baron Ros]], and Margaret Fitzalan (d. 3 July 1438), the daughter of [[John FitzAlan, 1st Baron Arundel]], by [[Eleanor Maltravers, 2nd Baroness Maltravers|Eleanor Maltravers]] (d. 3 July 1438), younger daughter and coheir of Sir [[John Maltravers, 1st Baron Maltravers|John Maltravers]].<ref>{{Harvnb|Cokayne|1949|pp=102–3}}; {{Harvnb|Richardson III|2011|pp=455–7}}.</ref>

He served as a [[soldier]] of [[Henry V of England]] during the [[Hundred Years' War]]. Six years after the [[Battle of Agincourt]], John participated in the [[Battle of Baugé]]. He was among the casualties along with his brother William Ros, [[Thomas of Lancaster, Duke of Clarence]], the governor of Normandy and others. He was buried at the [[Belvoir Priory]].

John de Ros married [[Margery le Despencer]], daughter and heiress of [[Philip le Despencer, 2nd Baron le Despencer]], but had no issue by her. After his death, Margery married Roger Wentworth (d. 24 October 1452), esquire, younger son of John Wentworth of Elmsall, [[Yorkshire]], by whom she had issue. ==Biography==
He was born in [[Poli, Lazio|Poli]], [[Kingdom of Italy|Italy]], the sixth son of Prince Don Giulio Torlonia, 2nd Duke di Poli e di Guadagnolo, and his wife, Princess Donna Teresa [[House of Chigi|Chigi]] [[House of della Rovere|della Rovere]]-[[Albani family|Albani]].

Torlonia's paternal grandmother was Princess Donna Anna Sforza-Cesarini, a descendant of [[Ludovico Sforza]], Duke of [[Milan]] and patron of [[Leonardo da Vinci]]. Torlonia's maternal grandmother was Princess Donna Leopoldina Doria-Pamphili-Landi, the granddaughter of [[Princess Leopoldina of Savoy]], a princess of the royal family of [[Piedmont]] and [[Sardinia]], which later became the Royal Family of [[Kingdom of Italy|Italy]]. The descendant of many [[pope]]s,<ref>Including [[Pope Paul III]], [[Pope Julius II]], and [[Pope Alexander VI]].</ref> Torlonia inherited the administration of the Banca Torlonia, which worked the finances of the Vatican and several other investments. He was one of the richest noblemen in Italy around the beginning of the twentieth century, and introduced the first [[motor car]] in [[Rome]].

==Personal life==
On August 15, 1907, Torlonia married [[Mary Elsie Moore]] (1889–1941), a [[Connecticut]] heiress who was studying in Rome. She was a daughter of the [[United States|American]] shipping broker Charles Arthur Moore, a tool manufacturer in [[Greenwich, Connecticut]], and of Mary L. Campbell. Mary Elsie Moore's brothers were Eugene Maxwell Moore (who married [[RMS Titanic|''Titanic'']] survivor Margaret Graham) and her niece, Bettine Moore, daughter of another brother, Charles Arthur Moore, Jr. (who was a part of [[Robert Peary]]'s Arctic Expedition in the summer of 1897), married [[William Close|William Taliaferro Close]] (they are the parents of actress [[Glenn Close]]).

Marino Torlonia and Mary Elsie Moore had four children:

He was the great-great-grandson of George Wingfield, uncle of the first Viscount of the 1618 creation. However, the 1665 creation also became extinct on the death of its first holder in 1717.

It was created for a third time in 1744 for [[Richard Wingfield, 1st Viscount Powerscourt (third creation)|Richard Wingfield]], along with title of '''Baron Wingfield''', of Wingfield in the County of Wexford. He was the grandson of Lewis Wingfield, uncle of the first Viscount of the 1665 creation. Richard Wingfield had earlier represented [[Boyle (Parliament of Ireland constituency)|Boyle]] in the [[Irish House of Commons]]. His eldest son, the second Viscount, represented [[Stockbridge (UK Parliament constituency)|Stockbridge]] in the [[British House of Commons]]. Known in his childhood as Tsuruchiyomaru (鶴千代丸), he was the eleventh son of [[Tokugawa Ieyasu]], the first Tokugawa shogun with his concubine, Kageyama-dono later adopted as [[Okaji no Kata]]'s son after his younger sister, Ichihime died. Yorifusa was first [[enfeoffed]] in the Shimotsuma domain (100,000 ''koku'') from 1606 to 1609, before being transferred to [[Mito Domain|Mito]] ([[Hitachi Province]], 350,000 ''koku'') in 1610, thereby founding the Mito branch of the Tokugawa house (the junior branch of the [[gosanke]]).<ref>Annals of Mito, 水戸紀年</ref> A holder of [[List of Japanese court ranks, positions and hereditary titles|the junior 3rd court rank]] (''jusanmi''), Yorifusa held the title of ''chūnagon'' (middle counselor), both of which he received in 1627.
