The three component signals are created from an original &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;RGB&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; (red, green and blue) source. The weighted values of &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;R&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt;, &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;G&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; and &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;B&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; are added together to produce a single &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;Y&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; signal, representing the overall brightness, or luminance, of that spot. The &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;D_B&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; signal is then created by subtracting the &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;Y&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; from the blue signal of the original &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;RGB&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt;, and then scaling; and &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;D_R&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; by subtracting the &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;Y&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; from the red, and then scaling by a different factor.&lt;br /&gt;
