In 1969, he resigned from his job as the result of a dispute about the way that a murder investigation was being handled (which was, according to an unnamed county attorney quoted in his obituary, "the only thing that a respectable law enforcement man could do" in the situation), and for a year worked as warden of the Passaic County jail, until he was re-hired by a new county prosecutor.<ref name="graphicwitness" />

==Position==
Holmsund lies at the mouth of the [[Ume River]]. To the west, across the river estuary, is a town called [[Obbola]], the towns are connected by the E12 road which is carried over the river estuary by the [[Obbola Bridge]]. Both Holmsund and Obbola have wood and paper industries. From the southern end of Holmsund a ferry service runs to the Finnish port of [[Vaasa]].

Swedish water-powered sawmills were under threat when steam power was introduced to Sweden in 1849. The largest Swedish water-powered saw mill was at [[Baggböle]]. It was one of the last to close in 1884 when Holmsund built a steam-powered mill. It is a part of the municipality of Tholen, and lies about 13 km northwest of [[Bergen op Zoom]], close to the [[Eendracht]], part of the [[Scheldt-Rhine Canal]].

== History ==
The village was first mentioned in 1410 as Vosmer, and means "old fresh water stream". Up to the 16th century, it formed a ''[[heerlijkheid]]'' with [[Nieuw-Vossemeer]]. The tower of the Dutch Reformed church dates from 1450. The church was heavily damaged by the 1576 fire. It was rebuilt in 1595, and the tower was placed inside the church. The church was extensively modified between 1913 and 1915. The Catholic St Willibrordus Church is an aisleless church with wooden tower from 1841. The interior was modified in 1928.<ref name="monument"/>

The former [[forge]] dates from 1786. The façade contains a "smith's clock" from {{circa}} 1805 with carved wooden figures, and has a wooden ringer with a brass bell. Above the clock is tunnel with cavalry figures. Oud-Vossemeer was home to 1,364 people in 1840.
