Summary
| DescriptionAbana in 2005 9100.jpg |
English: Abana is a tiny town at the Black Sea coast, some 20 kilometers to the East of Inebolu, along the coastal road to Sinop. Abana seems to be a rather popular holiday resort. I am not certain if some Bozkurt pictures did not mix with the others, that are of Abana itself (and its beach).
Along the Abana-Bozkurt road is a monument to 700 years of heroïsm by the locals. This is a part of the text of the İstiklal Marşı, the National Anthem by Akif Ersoy, I take the translation from the Wikipedia entry: " View not the soil you tread on as mere earth - recognize it! And think about the shroudless10 thousands who lie so nobly beneath you. You're the glorious son of a martyr - take shame, grieve not your ancestors! Unhand not, even when you're promised worlds, this heavenly homeland. Who would not sacrifice their life for this paradise of a country? Martyrs would burst forth should one simply squeeze the soil! Martyrs! May God take my life, my loved ones, and all possessions from me if He will,But let Him not deprive me of my one true homeland in the world." |

Abana is a tiny town at the Black Sea coast, some 20 kilometers to the East of Inebolu, along the coastal road to Sinop. I spent some hours here in June 2005 and walked the 2 kilometers inland towards Bozkurt, a somewhat larger town. Abana seems to be a rather popular holiday resort, and I can imagine the beach would get crowded in months to come. The interior is nice, and behind Bozkurt even great, so with your own transport or hopping the regular minibus to Kastamonu you may reconnoiter some fine hills. The road towards Sinop provides some marvelous views and on several spots I wanted to get off and walk into the small villages and the lush hills. Must be great to have your own transport here (but be careful not to hit the cows who wonder into the road). Things probably changed somewhat.
