Description
English: French Guiana, Cayenne, square Victor-Schoelcher: statue of Victor Schoelcher (1804-1893), with a slave whom he shows the way to liberty, following the definitive abolition of slavery in 1848 in France. The monument was erected in 1896, the statue is by the French sculptor Louis-Ernest Barrias (1841-1905), it is listed as Cultural Heritage Monument since 1999.
Français : Guyane, Cayenne, place Victor-Schoelcher : statue de Victor Schoelcher (1804-1893), avec un esclave à qui il montre la voie vers la liberté, suite au décret de l'abolition définitive de l'esclavage en 1848 en France. Le monument fut érigé en 1896, la statue est de Louis-Ernest Barrias (1841-1905). Le monument est classé Monument historique depuis 1999.
