English: Hurricane David of the 1979 Atlantic hurricane season at peak intensity in the Caribbean Sea south of Puerto Rico on August 30, 1979, at 17:30 UTC (1:30 P.M. EDT). David had 1-min sustained winds of 175 mph (280 km/h) and an official minimum central pressure of 924 mbar (27.29 inHg) at the time the Visible and Infrared Spin Scan Radiometer (VISSR) aboard NOAA's SMS-2 satellite captured this image.
