English: This Palmetto flag raised in Nevada city, California during the American Civil War to show support for the south. It flew in 1861.


Original text: "A secession flag was raised in the vicinity of Dockery’s drinking saloon, in La Porte, on Wednesday. A piece of white cotton cloth, ornamented with a charcoal sketch of a palmetto tree and black snake, comprised the contraband article. The rag didn’t hang out long."
