Summary

Description	English: This illustration comes from an 1851 book by Paul Feval titles "Les Tribunaux secrets" and was created by René de Moraine. It shows the traditional East European method of eliminating presumed vampires, by exhuming the suspect corpse and driving a wooden or iron stake through its heart. The engraving also shows a fiery explosion coming out of the vampire (depicted here as a "clean" skeleton, with all signs of decomposition already gone), an element sometimes present in Belarussian and Ukrainian folklore (for example in Adam Mickiewicz's poem "Upiór"). Polski: Ta ilustracja pochodzi z książki Paula Fevala z 1851 roku zatytułowanej „Les Tribunaux secrets” i została stworzona przez René de Moraine. Przedstawia ona tradycyjną wschodnioeuropejską metodę eliminacji domniemanych wampirów, polegającą na ekshumacji podejrzanych zwłok i wbiciu w ich serce drewnianego lub żelaznego kołka. Rycina przedstawia również ognistą eksplozję wydobywającą się z wampira (przedstawionego tutaj jako „czysty” szkielet, na którym nie ma już żadnych oznak rozkładu), element czasami obecny w białoruskim i ukraińskim folklorze (na przykład w poemacie Adama Mickiewicza „Upiór”).
