Italiano: Il quadro illustra il ritorno in patria di Giacobbe, che chiede perdono al fratello Esaù per avergli sottratto con l'inganno il diritto di primogenitura. I soggetti biblici ebbero molta fortuna intorno alla metà dell'Ottocento, in quanto la sofferenza del popolo ebraico richiamava la situazione politica italiana.
English: The painting illustrates Jacob's return to his homeland, asking forgiveness from his brother Esau for having deceived his birthright. Biblical subjects had a lot of luck around the mid-nineteenth century, as the suffering of the Jewish people recalled the Italian political situation. |
