| Description |
Het model dat voor Breitner poseerde heette Geesje Kwak. Ze was een Amsterdams dienstmeisje, op dit schilderij is ze zestien jaar. Ze is gekleed in een Japanse kimono, een geliefd thema van Breitner. Hij maakte dertien schilderijen van meisjes in kimono’s, geïnspireerd door Japanse prenten, die hij ook verzamelde. Maar het dragen van Aziatische kleding had voor Europeanen sinds lange tijd ook een seksuele lading. |
