Description
English: "The Limehouse Barge Builders", oil on canvas by by Charles Napier Hemy (1841-1917). The scene depicts barge builders working on the River Thames. The precise location is revealed by the sign 'Lamb - Mast & Block': from directories this was 90 Narrow Street, Wapping, London; the building numbers may have slightly changed but this is still a line of former wharfs at E14 8BX. From Hemy'a London residence years the probable date of the painting is 1880.
