Text on sign: "The English Trading House in Hirado was established in 1613 (Keichō 18), and was the center of the trade between England and Japan for 10 years, until it was closed in 1623 (Genwa 9). The building was initially rented from a Chinese merchant called Ritan. In contrast to the Dutch, the English did not succeed in making profit of the with the Japanese and withdrew from the country.
