Summary

Description
English: Haig and Sir Philip Sassoon, Western Front, during World War I. Field Marshal (Earl) Haig (1861-1928) and Sir Philip Sassoon (1888-1939) in Haig's office on a train, probably in France. It appears to have been taken on the same date as the photograph titled 'Haig in his office on a train', probably in the summer or autumn of 1918.

Sir Philip Sassoon, cousin of the war poet Siegfried, was an extremely wealthy landowner and politician. He was Secretary to the British Prime Minister, Lloyd George (1863-1945), who often distrusted Haig.
