Summary

Description
English: A female (above) and male (below) Ischyodus egertoni (formerly I. quenstedti) reconstructed based on Cape elephantfish and a handful of the best fossils. Referenced from specimens and descriptions in Duffin et al. (2025) and Villalobos-Segura et al. (2023), as well as the life reconstruction from Popov et al. (2013). Historic misinterpretations of the taxon as a Chimaera-like animal with a diphycercal, filamentous tail are universally considered inaccurate by modern authorities and are disregarded here.
