In the description originally accompanying the cartoon, the trader points out to the Schaumburg-Lippe customs officer that he has nothing to declare, since the goods at the front of his wagon are already out of Schaumburg-Lippe, and those in the back have not yet entered the principallity, while the middle of the wagon - the only part which is actually inside Schaumburg-Lippe - is empty.
