English: Norton Knatchbull was an English politician, scholar and one of Hoogstraten's most important customers in England between 1662 and 1667. Shortly after his arrival in London, Hoogstraten received many commissions from the Royal Society in the English capital. The portrait itself is life-sized and thanks to the perspective and lighting, Knatchbull is depicted as powerful and imposing.
