English: A Royal Air Force firefighter takes part in an exercise at RAF Leuchars in Scotland.

Firefighters perform an essential role at home and on overseas operations. As part of an Immediate Response Team, they are equipped with highly specialist equipment, like night vision goggles and powerful cutting tools. RAF firefighters could be called upon to put out fires caused by explosive devices or rescue crew trapped in vehicles or aircraft.
