Description
English: "The South-Sea House in Bishops-gate Street", engraving by Thomas Bowles, published 1754. Inscribed "Bowles sculp." and "Publish’d according to Act of Parliament, for Stowe’s Survey, 1754". The topmost lead brackets on the down-pipes from the hopper heads are inscribed "1725", presumably the date of the building. The hopper heads display the Company's arms. The building was situated on the corner of Bishopsgate Street and Threadneedle Street, in the City of London (see Thornbury, Walter, Old and New London, Vol.1, p.543).
