Summary

Description
English: 1957 NBC publicity photo promoting the TV series "The Silent Service." The photo was taken in the conning tower of the American submarine USS Sawfish (SS-276), which was used as a filming location for the series. The man leaning on the periscope at right is retired Rear Admiral Thomas M. Dykers, who created and presented "The Silent Service." The man at left is Lieutenant John Gullet, who is the commanding officer of the submarine in its role as a US Navy Reservist training vessel at Terminal Island, California. This photo has been extracted from page 75 of the May 5, 1957 issue of The Tampa Tribune via a Newspapers.com scan. This promotional photo has also appeared in the Nevada State Journal, Mansfield News Journal, and Jefferson City Post-Tribune, among other newspapers.
