English: US patent #68445 of a fountain pen. The patent described a more efficient ink chamber and a delivery system for the ink, a key innovation in the development of the self-contained fountain pen. This patent, among others, represented significant advancements in fountain pen design during the mid-19th century, moving towards self-contained ink reservoirs that eliminated the need to dip pens in an inkwell.
