Closeup shows the Cedar Creek - Hupp Hill - Strasburg - Middletown area of Virginia. Gordonsville was a railroad target favored by General Grant. Early retreated to New Market after the battle. Sheridan was in Winchester when the battle started, an overnight stop while returning from a meeting in Washington, DC. |
