"'''I Drove All Night'''" is a song written and composed by American songwriters [[Billy Steinberg]] and [[Tom Kelly (musician)|Tom Kelly]] and originally intended for [[Roy Orbison]]. Orbison recorded the song in 1987, the year before his death, but his version was not released until 1991. Before that, [[Cyndi Lauper]] recorded the song and released it as a single for her ''[[A Night to Remember (Cyndi Lauper album)|A Night to Remember]]'' album. Her version became a top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic in 1989 and was also her final top 40 hit on the American pop charts. Lauper still regularly performs the song in her live concerts. The song has also been covered by Canadian singer [[Celine Dion]] in 2003, whose version topped the [[Canadian Singles Chart]] and reached number seven on the US [[Adult Contemporary]] chart. A version also released in 2003 by [[country music]] band [[Pinmonkey]] also made top 40 on the US [[Hot Country Songs]] charts.

"I Drove All Night" was recorded by American singer and songwriter [[Cyndi Lauper]] for her third solo album, ''[[A Night to Remember (Cyndi Lauper album)|A Night to Remember]]'' (1989). Lauper said she wanted to do it because she liked the idea "of a woman driving, of a woman in control." The song was a top-10 hit for her in the United States, becoming her 8th and last US top-10 single to date as well as her 10th and final top-40 single to date, peaking at number six on the [[Billboard Hot 100|''Billboard'' Hot 100]], and was also a hit in other countries. It received a [[Grammy Award]] nomination for [[Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance|Best Female Rock Vocal Performance]]. In 2003, Chrysler signed Dion to a $14 million deal to endorse their cars. They were looking for a song to use in the campaign and release as a single. [[Billy Steinberg]] knew Dion and had written "[[Falling into You (song)|Falling into You]]", which was the title track of [[Falling into You|her 1996 album]]. In 2003, American [[country music]] band [[Pinmonkey]] covered the song on their [[Pinmonkey (album)|self-titled debut album]]. According to group member Chad Jeffers, the idea of doing a country cover of the song was inspired by his girlfriend, who was a fan of Cyndi Lauper's version. To make sure their cover sounded distinct, the band intentionally declined to listen to Lauper's version, instead basing it off an acoustic rendition sung by Jeffers.<ref name="drives">{{cite web | url=https://www.countrystandardtime.com/d/print_article.asp?xid=690 | title=Pinmonkey drives on | publisher=Country Standard Time | accessdate=October 29, 2024 | author=Jeffrey B.
