The '''Pompton River''' is a [[tributary]] of the [[Passaic River]], approximately {{convert|8|mi}} long, in [[Passaic County, New Jersey|Passaic County]] in northern [[New Jersey]] in the [[United States]].

It is formed south of the borough of [[Pompton Lakes, New Jersey|Pompton Lakes]] by the confluence of the [[Ramapo River|Ramapo]] and [[Pequannock River|Pequannock]] rivers.<ref>[https://www.montclair.edu/water-science/passaic-river-institute/the-passaic-river-basin/ The Passaic River Basin], [[Montclair State University]]. The low-lying flat areas of [[Pompton Plains, New Jersey|Pompton Plains]] in Pequannock Township are prone to flooding from the Pompton River.
