Abdi

Abdi is a male name. It is a usually given to Somali boys and also Oromos and the Arabs Abdul. In Somali, it means 'servant of Allah'. Among others, one version has an Arabic meaning which is loosely translated as 'servant of God'. Abdi referred in Afaan Oromo means hope, being for-mostly related with being hopeful. Example as in a sentence : ' Anii abdi qebaa, Rabbi nuun egaa'. (Afaan Oromo)

Arabic name

While Arabic speakers commonly use Abdu (Template:Lang‎ / Template:Lang Template:Transliteration) rather than Abdi, both are nicknames for Abdul. It originates from the Arabic word Template:Lang Template:Transliteration / Template:Transliteration / Template:Transliteration. The name translates as "servant of God"<ref name="Long">Template:Cite book</ref> in reference to religious submission to Allah (God). As such, it is often used by Muslims around the world in conjunction with one of the names of God in Islam, but also sometimes on its own.<ref name="Long"/>

Abdi is the name of three men in the Hebrew Bible. In Hebrew, Abdi (עַבְדִּ֖י) literally means "my servant", but may be an abbreviation for "servant of "Yahweh".<ref>Template:Cite web</ref>
