It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the parishes of Prazeres and São Vicente.<ref>Template:Cite web</ref> Its population in 2011 was 6,639<ref name=ine>Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE), Census 2011 results according to the 2013 administrative division of Portugal</ref> in an area of 47.94 km².<ref name=dgt>Template:Cite web</ref> In 1385 the Battle of Aljubarrota took place near the village.
