Alphington railway station is a commuter railway station on the Hurstbridge line, which is part of the Melbourne railway network. It serves the north-eastern suburb of Alphington, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Alphington station is a ground level unstaffed station, featuring two side platforms. It opened on 8 May 1888, with the current station provided in 1979.<ref name="vicsigalphington">Template:Cite web</ref>
History
Alphington station opened on 8 May 1888, when a railway line between Collingwood and Heidelberg was provided.<ref name=vicsigalphington/> Like the suburb itself, the station was named after Alphington in Devon, England, which was the birthplace of Sir William Manning, who subdivided his property in the area into a village.<ref name="vpalphington">Template:Cite web</ref><ref name="heraldsun">Template:Cite web</ref>
In 1912, duplication between Westgarth and Alphington was provided.<ref name=vicsigalphington/> In 1951, duplication to Ivanhoe was provided.<ref name=vicsigalphington/>
In 1966, boom barriers replaced interlocked gates at the Yarralea Street level crossing, located at the down end of the station.<ref name="barriers">Template:Cite web</ref><ref name="somersaultjan90">Template:Cite magazine</ref> The signal box and a goods yard were also abolished at that time.<ref name=vicsigalphington/>
