Gavin King (born 28 November 1968), better known by his stage name Aphrodite, is a British jungle and drum and bass DJ/producer.<ref name= Allmusic>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref name=bbc>Template:Cite news</ref> He is also known as A Zone or DJ Aphro. He has contributed to and influenced the genre's styles and techniques.

Background

Gavin King<ref name=bbc/><ref name=Larkin-2000 /> was born in Aberystwyth, Wales. His family relocated to London when he was a toddler.<ref name=bbc/> He has studied computer science and attended Coventry University<ref name= Stein-Billboard>Template:Cite magazine</ref> and was also at University of Warwick.<ref name=bbc/>

Career

King's first release was an EP, Cellar 4.<ref name=Larkin-2000 /> He was half of breakbeat hardcore duo Urban Shakedown (with DJ/producer Micky Finn),<ref name= bbc /><ref name=Larkin-2000 /> which scored a UK top 40 hit with "Some Justice" in 1992.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref name=Larkin-2000 /> The duo appeared in an article of Amiga Format magazine after using two Amiga 500 computers to help create the track.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

His DJ moniker and his label Aphrodite Recordings<ref name= Allmusic /> share the Aphrodite name which he began using when leading parties at University of Warwick.<ref name= Stein-Billboard /> that he ran in 1988.<ref name=Larkin-2000>Template:Cite encyclopedia</ref> His debut album, released in 1999, was a self-titled<ref name= Stein-Billboard /> effort under V2 Recordings.<ref name=Larkin-2000 /> The follow-up Aftershock was released on 24 June 2002 under V2 Recordings also.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

Some of his music has been featured in movies and TV series, including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.<ref name= bbc /> He has created remixes for Nine Inch Nails and Dub War.<ref name= Allmusic />
