History
The arrondissement of Béthune was created in 1800.<ref name=splaf>Historique du Pas-de-Calais</ref> The arrondissement of Lens was created in 1962 from part of the arrondissement of Béthune.<ref>Décret n°62-6 du 10 janvier 1962</ref> At the January 2017 reorganisation of the arrondissements of Pas-de-Calais, it gained three communes from the arrondissement of Arras and one commune from the arrondissement of Lens.<ref name=arrete>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
As a result of the reorganisation of the cantons of France which came into effect in 2015, the borders of the cantons are no longer related to the borders of the arrondissements.
