Berwick railway station is a commuter and regional railway station on the Pakenham and Gippsland lines, which are part of the Melbourne railway network and Regional railway network. It serves the south-eastern suburb of Berwick, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Berwick station is a ground-level premium station, featuring an island platform. It opened on 8 October 1877.<ref name="vicsigberwick">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

History

Berwick station opened on 8 October 1877, when the railway line from Dandenong was extended to Pakenham.<ref name=vicsigberwick/> Like the suburb itself, the station was named after Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, the birthplace of Robert Gardiner, who was an early leaseholder in the area.<ref name="vpberwick">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

In 1956, the line between Berwick and Officer was duplicated, with a signal panel also installed at the station in that year.<ref name=vicsigberwick/> In 1962, duplication between Berwick and Narre Warren was provided.<ref name=vicsigberwick/>

In 1970, flashing light signals were provided at the former Clyde Road level crossing, which was located nearby in the up direction of the station.<ref name=vicsigberwick/> On 12 October 1982, at around 11:15am, Hitachi carriage 137M, leading a Dandenong – Pakenham shuttle service, collided with a semi-trailer at the level crossing. The collision derailed 137M, flipping it on its side. Eleven people were injured in the collision.<ref name="herald">Template:Cite news</ref> 137M was later withdrawn due to the collision.<ref name="vicsig137M">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

In 1986, boom barriers were provided at the former level crossing.<ref name="newsrailmar87">Template:Cite magazine</ref><ref name="somersault">Template:Cite magazine</ref> During September 1988, the former No. 2 and No. 3 roads were removed.<ref name="newsrailnov88">Template:Cite magazine</ref> In December of that year, a number of points and signals were abolished.<ref name=vicsigberwick/>

In 1998, Berwick was upgraded to a premium station.<ref name="newsrailoct97">Template:Cite magazine</ref>

On 1 December 2018, the signal panel was abolished.<ref name="signalbox">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

In February 2022, the Clyde Road level crossing was grade separated, as part of the Level Crossing Removal Project.<ref name="lxrp1">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> The level crossing was removed by building a road underpass beneath the railway line. The grade separation works also included upgrading the bus interchange at the station.<ref name="lxrp2">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> On 21 February of that year, Clyde Road reopened to vehicular traffic.<ref name="lxrp3">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

Platforms and services
