It began in 1916 through its flagship magazine, The Blood-Horse.<ref>Template:Cite web</ref> From 1961 to 2015, Blood-Horse Publications was owned by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, a non-profit organization that promotes Thoroughbred racing and breeding.
