As of 2003, the village had an estimated population of 1,881 and a density of Template:Convert. The total area was Template:Convert.

On October 1, 2004, Daiwa, along with the town of Ōchi (also from Ōchi District), was merged to create the town of Misato.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
