Warthen has served as Chief Technology Officer or Vice President of Engineering for a variety of companies,<ref name=WarthenAnswerbag>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref name=WarthenGetFugu>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> many of them start-ups,<ref name=WarthenGlobalStreams>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref name=WarthenEyeGames>Template:Cite press release</ref><ref name=WarthenAllvoices>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> over his career.

David Warthen obtained B.A (Computer Science) from University of California, San Diego, and attended PhD program at University of California, Berkeley (2002 - 2004) but did not obtain a degree.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
