Fédération Internationale Féline
Template:Short description Template:Third-party
{{#invoke:Lang|lang}} ({{#invoke:Lang|lang}}) (Template:Literal translation) is a federation of {{#invoke:Lang|lang}} animals (mainly cats). The federation currently has 42 members from 40 countries.<ref name=":1">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> {{#invoke:Lang|lang}} is one of the nine members of the World Cat Congress.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
History
It was founded by "French cat-lover {{#invoke:Lang|lang}}" in 1949.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
The federation was unofficially started in 1949 in Paris, France, at a meeting between the {{#invoke:Lang|lang}} (French Cat Federation), the Royal Cat Society of Flanders, and the {{#invoke:Lang|lang}} (Italian National Feline Association).<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> At the organisation's first general assembly, in Ghent, Belgium, the federation was officially founded. For the occasion, all participants received a cat shaped statuette, in pink sandstone, that Marguerite Ravel had commissioned from the sculptor Jan Martel.<ref name=":0" />
The original name was {{#invoke:Lang|lang}} ({{#invoke:Lang|lang}}). In 1972, the Brazilian Cat Club (Template:Langx) joined, making it necessary to change the Euro-centric name of the federation. The {{#invoke:Lang|lang}} (Template:Literal translation) was dropped, and the abbreviation was changed to FIFé.<ref name=":0">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

Recognized breeds
FIFé currently recognizes 48 official breeds of cat for championship competitions. All breeds are divided into four categories and identified with a three-letter code, according to the Easy Mind System (EMS), used by FIFé and all its members to easily identify cats by alphanumeric codes.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
