| Description |
English: A sketch by Ludvig Verner Helms titled "Audience of the King of Cambodia" representing his meeting with King Ang Duong in 1851. Helms was sent to Cambodia by Singapore merchants Almeida & Sons to investigate the trade potential of that country. Helms was a Danish adventurer, merchant, emissary, and author associated with the Far East, especially the Borneo Company in Sarawak. He published this sketch in 1882 in his book "Pioneering in the Far East". King Ang Duong was the King of Cambodia from 1841 to 1844 and from 1845 to his death in 1860. Formally invested in 1848, his rule benefited a kingdom that had suffered from several centuries of royal dissent and decline.
