Summary
DescriptionNasser mansheya incident.oga
English: Sound recording of the assassination attempt on Gamal Abdul Nasser, then vice-chairman of the Revolutionary Command Council, during his speech in Manshiyya Square, Alexandria on the occasion of the withdrawal of British forces from Egypt. Nasser stayed up on the speaking platform, shouting commands and appealing for calm, which was widely seen as a brave act that improved his public image across the Arab World. This event is considered to have consolidated Nasser's power and to have directly led to his assumption of the presidency less than three weeks later.
