English: A bucolic scene with two shepherds, Thyrsis and Aipolos (= Goatherd) illustrating Theocritus Idyll 1 Θύρσις ἢ ᾠδή, lines 12-14. Thyrsis is standing holding a staff and gesticulates to the other sitting shepherd (Aipolos) in sunhat who listens. Goats, sheep, cows, sheepdog. Burning mountain top. Tree. Greek caption in running abbreviated Greek script with the text spoken by Thursis in the dialogue:

Λῇς, ποτὶ τᾶν νυμφᾶν, Αιπολε; λῇς, Αιπολε, τᾶδε καθίξας,
Ω, ὡς τὸ (?) κάταντες τοῦτο (?) Γεώλοφον, αἵ τε μυρῖκαι,
Συρίσδεν; τὰς δ᾽ αἶγας ἐγὼν ἐν τῷδε νομευσῶ.

Nederlands: Landelijk tafereel met twee herders, een gravure als illustratie van een tekstuitgave van Theocritus: Idyll 1 Θύρσις ἢ ᾠδή, regel 12-14. Gesprek tussen de twee herders Thyrsis (staand met staf en gebarend) en Aipolos (= Geitenhoeder, zittend met zonnehoed). Geiten, schapen, koeien, herdershond. Brandende bergtop. Boom.
