However, some communities that later migrated to Kerala began conferring the poonul on all male members by birth, turning it into a lifelong marker and hereditary profession
മലയാളം: താവം ശ്രീ കുറുമ്പാ കാവിലെ തിയ്യർ പൂജാരി പൂണൂൽ (പവിത്ര സൂത്രം) ധരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ചരിത്രപരമായി കേരളത്തിൽ പൂണൂൽ ധരിച്ചത് പൂജകളും താന്ത്രിക കര്മ്മങ്ങളും നടത്തുന്ന സമയത്താണ്. എന്നാൽ പിന്നീട് കേരളത്തിലേക്ക് കുടിയേറിയ ചില സമൂഹങ്ങൾ ജനനംമുതൽ എല്ലാ പുരുഷന്മാർക്കും പൂണൂൽ അർപ്പിക്കുന്ന പതിവ് ആരംഭിച്ച്, അതിനെ ജീവിതകാലമൊട്ടുക്കുള്ള അടയാളമായും പാരമ്പര്യ തൊഴിൽരീതിയായും മാറ്റി |
