{{#invoke:other uses|otheruses}} Gough (Template:IPAc-en Template:Respell) is a surname. The surname may derive from the Welsh {{#invoke:Lang|lang}} (English: "red"),<ref>Farrar-Hockley 1974, pp. 2–3</ref> possibly given as a nickname to someone with red hair or a red complexion. Another possible derivation is that it was a reduced form of the Irish McGough which itself is an Anglicized form of Gaelic {{#invoke:Lang|lang}}, a patronymic from the personal name {{#invoke:Lang|lang}} (variant {{#invoke:Lang|lang}}), "horseman", both derivatives of Irish {{#invoke:Lang|lang}} "horse".Template:Citation needed
