They have exclusive jurisdictionTemplate:Citation needed over cases involving legal minors, such as juvenile delinquency, status offenses, abuse and neglect, termination of parental rights, adoption, guardianships and detention among others.<ref name=homepage>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> The family courts also oversee cases of domestic relations involving divorce, child support, and custody matters.<ref name=homepage/>

The family courts are not constituted as separate courts with their own judges. Judges of the circuit courts and district courts sit as family court judges.
