Glass was born on October 7, 1936, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.<ref name=":0">Template:Cite web</ref> She was born as Joan Ruth McClelland.<ref name=":0" /> She was involved with theatre during high school.<ref name=":0" /> She moved to Calgary to work in a radio station.<ref name=":0" />
