He captained Aston Villa's last FA Cup winning team in 1957.

Born in Hebburn,<ref name=Hugman>Template:Hugman</ref> Dixon played for county league side Spennymoor United before he signed as a professional for Aston Villa shortly after the Second World War.<ref name="villa cup hero">Template:Cite news</ref>

Dixon had Alzheimer's disease, and died on 20 January 2009 in Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield.<ref name="villa cup hero"/>
