Maenalus (Arcadia)

Template:Short description Template:For Template:For Maenalus or Mainalos (Template:Langx) was a town of ancient Arcadia, and the capital of the district Maenalia (Μαιναλία),<ref>Template:Cite Thucydides</ref><ref>Template:Cite Pausanias, 6.7.9, 8.9.4.</ref> which formed part of the territory of Megalopolis upon the foundation of the latter city. Maenalus was in ruins in the time of Pausanias, who mentions a temple of Athena, a stadium, and a hippodrome, as belonging to the place.<ref>Template:Cite Pausanias, 8.36.8</ref><ref>Template:Cite Stephanus</ref>

According to the myth it was founded by Maenalus, son of Lycaon.<ref>A Dictionary of Greek and Roman biography and mythology, Maenalus</ref>
