Maquis is characterized by plants of the family Lamiaceae, genera Laurus and Myrtus, and species Olea europaea, Ceratonia siliqua, and Ficus carica. It is similar to garrigue.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
