Parkdale railway station is a commuter railway station on the Frankston line, which is part of the Melbourne railway network. It serves the south-eastern suburb of Parkdale, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Parkdale station is an elevated unstaffed station, with two side platforms. It opened on 1 September 1919, with the current station provided in August 2024.<ref name="vicsigparkdale">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref name="kingston">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

History

Parkdale station opened on 1 September 1919.<ref name=vicsigparkdale/> Like the suburb itself, it was named after W. Parker, an early landowner in the area.<ref name="vpparkdale">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

A disused signal box was located at the Frankston (down) end of Platform 1. It was abolished in 1986, when boom barriers replaced interlocked gates at the former Parkers Road level crossing, which was also located at the down end of the station.<ref name="somersaultjan90">Template:Cite magazine</ref>

On 4 May 2010, as part of the 2010/2011 State Budget, $83.7 million was allocated to upgrade Parkdale to a premium station, along with nineteen others.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref name="newsrailjun10">Template:Cite magazine</ref> However, in March 2011, this was scrapped by the Baillieu Government.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

On 29 July 2021, the Level Crossing Removal Project announced that the level crossing will be grade separated by 2025.<ref name="lxrp1">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> The project will involve elevating the line over the road, and will include rebuilding the station.<ref name="lxrp2">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> In late May 2023, construction commenced on the project.<ref name="lxrp3">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

On 9 April 2023, a fire damaged the former ground level station building on Platform 1.<ref name="fire">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

On 15 July 2024, Warrigal Road and Parkers Road level crossing and equipment were eliminated, with the new Parkdale station having opened to passengers on 2 August 2024, since the original ground-level station closed on 21 October 2023.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

Platforms and services
