Born in London to Lady Sarah Chatto and Daniel Chatto, both of whom are artists,<ref name=":0"/> he is a grandson of Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon and a grand-nephew of Elizabeth II. Template:As of, he is 30th in line to the British throne.<ref>Template:Cite web</ref> He also has a younger brother, Arthur, with whom he attended Eton College.<ref name=":0">Template:Cite web</ref>

Chatto studied at the University of Edinburgh, and graduated in 2018 with a degree in art history.<ref name=":1">Template:Cite web</ref> From 2019 to 2020, he attended the Royal Drawing School.<ref>Template:Cite web</ref> He became interested in pottery, and completed a six week apprenticeship at North Shore Pottery in Caithness. Chatto has a home studio, and has sold his creations on his own website.<ref name=":3">Template:Cite web</ref> Chatto has spent time in Japan to learn pottery techniques.<ref name=":2">Template:Cite web</ref><ref name=":0"/> His work has been displayed in various places, including a restaurant in Somerset and art galleries in Norway and Japan.<ref name=":3"/><ref>Template:Cite web</ref> In 2019, Chatto spent six weeks in India to complete 200 hours of training to become a yoga instructor.<ref name=":1"/><ref>Template:Cite web</ref>
