Details

Wassall was 22 years old, and a private in the 80th Regiment of Foot (later The South Staffordshire Regiment), British Army during the Anglo-Zulu War when the following deed took place on 22 January 1879 at the Battle of Isandlwana, Zululand, South Africa, for which he was awarded the VC: Template:Quote.

The medal

His Victoria Cross is displayed at the Museum of the Staffordshire Regiment in Whittington, Staffordshire.
