The Take (Welsh band)
Template:Short description Template:Multiple issues Template:Use dmy dates The Take, a punk/post-hardcore/rock band from Cardiff, Wales, was formed in 1997 as ‘Fishtake’ by Jim Williams, Paul Copner, and Richard Crayford. Jim played drums, Paul sang and played guitar, and Richie played bass. Charles Curran joined soon afterwards, playing guitar for early gigs in Barry and Cardiff before switching to bass when Richard Crayford left in 1998. During that year, the band recorded a couple of demo’s which were released on cassette, with Jim handling both drums and guitar, Paul singing and playing guitar, and Charles on bass. Will Rees, formerly of South Wales punk rock band Four Letter Word, joined as drummer in late 1999, solidifying the lineup with Jim on guitars and vocals, Paul on guitars, Charles on bass, and Will on drums.
In November 2000, they recorded an E.P., ‘Private Foul And Surface Water’, which was self-released through The 23:59 Label. To support the release, the band undertook a tour of the UK with Cardiff band Douglas in spring 2001. In September, they started recording their first full length album ‘Propeller’ at Prism Studio, Stoke-on-Trent with Sean Lowe. Paul Copner left the band shortly after and Pete Leakey from Brecon-based punk band No Comply joined as guitarist. The album was completed in February 2002 and was released by London based label Household Name Records in September 2002.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

With Household Name’s agreement, they released the ‘Gene Pool + 2’ EP on CD through Good Clean Fun Records, which included ‘Gene Pool Song’ from ‘Propeller’ and two previously unreleased tracks.
On the 15th January 2003, The Take recorded a live session for BBC Radio 1’s ‘Bethan and Huw Show’, at Monnow Valley Studio in Monmouth, Wales.
Will Rees left the band in 2003 and was replaced by Nathan Phillips, formerly of the band Douglas. They toured the UK with Glasgow-based Stapleton (band) in April and May 2004.
The Take began recording their second full album, ‘Dolomite’, in December 2004 again at Prism Studio with Sean Lowe. The album was completed in spring 2005. ‘Dolomite’ was released on CD by Leeds based label Bombed Out Records,<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> followed by a tour with Yorkshire band Calcutecs.
