Thessalus

In Greek mythology, the name Thessalus (Template:IPAc-en Template:Langx) is attributed to the following individuals, all of whom were considered possible eponyms of Thessaly.

• Thessalus, son of Haemon,<ref name="Strabo, Geography, 9.5.23">Strabo, 9.5.23</ref> son of Chlorus,<ref>Stephanus of Byzantium, s.v. Haimonia</ref> son of Pelasgus.<ref>Scholia on Apollonius Rhodius, 3.1089</ref>
• Thessalus, son of Poseidon and one of the reputed father of Minyas, founder of Minyan Orchomenus.<ref>Scholia on Pindar, Olympian Odes 14.5</ref>
• Thessalus, son of Jason and Medea, the twin of Alcimenes and older brother of Tisandrus. He escaped being murdered by his mother and, after the death of Acastus, became king of Iolcus.<ref>Diodorus Siculus, 4.54.1 & 55.2</ref>
• Thessalus, also called Thettalus, son of Heracles and Chalciope. He was the father of Antiphus, Pheidippus and Nesson.<ref>Homer, Iliad 2.679; Apollodorus, 2.7.8; Strabo, 9.5.23</ref> After the Carians settled at Calydna and Nisyros, Thessalus took possession of both islands later.<ref>Diodorus Siculus, 5.54.1</ref>
