History
A post office called White Oak was established in 1894.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> The community took its name from nearby White Oak Creek.<ref>Template:Cite book</ref>
In 1898, Joseph Slingerland purchased 6,995 acres of land in White Oak and established a Shaker community there. The Shaker community in White Oak was the last Shaker community ever founded as well as the shortest-lived, lasting only until 1902.<ref>Template:Cite book</ref>
